Why Maintaining a Blog Now Means Extra Money Later

There are many reasons one should create a blog and maintain it, but it is not necessarily something just anyone should do. If you are devoted to a certain topic, or if you have a strong personality with insight into lots of various issues then it is obvious what you should do. Even if your goal is to make money it does not have to be represented by a gauntlet of banners, pop-ups, pop-unders, or any other unscrupulous advertising processes.

First, the domain name you choose should be one that will get better with time. This means no .tv, .biz, .org, .net or any other domain besides a .com. The reason for this is their worth. These domains will never lose their value and in fact the value will increase over time. It is important to not use numbers, dashes, or misspellings.

Second, you must update your blog as much as possible. This does not mean to flood your blog with useless entries. This means you want to create a place where people are looking forward to your next entry.

Third, create a news feed that people could access without going directly to your website. This news feed is referred to as an RSS. This is important because your entries will appear as headlines in different forms across the web.

Fourth, find blogs just like yours and comment on them. Do not be threatened by a blog similar to yours, in fact, the two sites should be networked together for ultimate readership.

Fifth, keep it looking nice. Aesthetics supply the backbone of practically all popular blogs. You want to show off your taste in design. Do not overpopulate your blog with advertisements or useless scripts. You have a blog to become a beacon of information, not to be one of those sleazy advertising websites.

Sixth, take your time. Success or readership do not arrive overnight. It will take at least 6 months to get a good idea of what future traffic might look like. Patience is the key issue when maintaining a blog. Traffic is like a skyscraper, you have to build it floor by floor before you can reach the top.

All of these things will contribute to a blog that is so highly regarded that simple non-evasive text ads could be making you literally $100,000 a year or more. The possible success is determined by how creative, patient, and insightful you can be as a blogger or blog owner.
